Stuttgart Group Transfers With the Messe Beside the Airport
Stuttgart puts its Messe and its airport side by side on the A8, about 13 km from the Schlossplatz. That keeps fair transfers short and makes the city leg, with its emission rules, the part to plan.
Airport and Messe as one site
Group coaches use the Stuttgart Airport Busterminal (SAB), where stands 4 to 18 serve long-distance lines and group coaches. The terminal's control centre must confirm the stop at least 3 hours before arrival, and coach parking for longer stays is directly opposite. Messe Stuttgart keeps 57 coach places, reserved for people visiting a fair, and the ICS congress centre stands on the same site; arrangements can differ by fair, so the venue confirms them each time.
S2, S3 and U6 link the airport and Messe with the city in about 25 to 30 minutes. The new long-distance station at the airport is not open and is now due in December 2030, so ICE arrivals come into the Hauptbahnhof and need a transfer out.

Emission rules for the whole city
All of Stuttgart is an Umweltzone: green sticker only, foreign vehicles included. Diesel vehicles of Euro 4/IV and older are banned throughout, and in the kleine Umweltzone (the central basin, Bad Cannstatt, Feuerbach, Zuffenhausen) diesel coaches need Euro VI unless they hold an individual exemption. The quote states the emission standard: a central hotel and a dinner at the Mercedes-Benz Museum both lie inside the inner zone.
Airports feeding Stuttgart
- Stuttgart Airport (STR) — about 20 min in light traffic; longer at peak times
Messe and congress venues
- ICS Internationales Congresscenter Stuttgart — Congress centre on the Messe Stuttgart site at the airport, with its own underground car park (P22 and P23) at Eingang Ost. The new long-distance station Flughafen/Messe is being built at Eingang Ost as part of Stuttgart 21
- SI-Centrum Stuttgart — Musical theatres (SI-Erlebniszentrum); 56 coach places (paid) at Kurt-Schumacher-Straße / Epplestraße, Stadtbahn U3 at Salzäcker
- Messe Stuttgart — Exhibition centre directly at Stuttgart Airport, beside the A8 motorway, about 120,000 m² of exhibition space in seven standard halls, a large multi-purpose hall, Halle 10 and a hall in the ICS. S-Bahn S2 and S3 and Stadtbahn U6 stop at Flughafen/Messe. About 6,700 parking places on site plus the airport car parks
- Kultur- und Kongresszentrum Liederhalle — Concert and congress centre in the city centre at Berliner Platz; Stadtbahn U1 and U9 from the Hauptbahnhof (3 minutes) to Berliner Platz (Liederhalle). Coach places at Breitscheidstraße / Kienestraße and at Breitscheidstraße 5

Liederhalle, Hauptbahnhof and the Wasen
The Liederhalle congress venue has coach places on Breitscheidstraße and is 3 minutes from the Hauptbahnhof by U1 or U9. At the Hauptbahnhof, Jägerstraße / Ossietzkystraße has 7 places with a parking disc, up to 30 minutes. The old terminus stays in use for years while Stuttgart 21 is built, and rail works keep bringing closures with replacement buses: check the current rail service before fixing a meet.
With about 200 paid places, the Cannstatter Wasen is Stuttgart's biggest coach park and the natural holding point for MHPArena and NeckarPark events. The Volksfest and other big events take much of its space, so confirm availability for those dates.
Planner questions
Is the new underground Hauptbahnhof open?
No. It is now due in December 2031; the old terminus keeps working, with a shorter walking route through the Bonatzbau planned from December 2027.
How does a coach handle a Christmas-market evening?
Recently the drop has been Börsenplatz, with free parking on P10 at the Cannstatter Wasen; each season's arrangement is checked at booking.
How far is Frankfurt Airport from Stuttgart?
About 198 km, roughly 2.5 hours in light traffic. For a group landing there, that is most of a driver's morning.
