Dresden Group Transfers Between Airport, Messe and Altstadt

Dresden's own airport is about 10 km out, but many groups arrive by EuroCity from Prague or Berlin, or land at Leipzig or BER. Plan around the airport or station each guest actually uses.

Three airports, two main stations

Dresden Airport is about 20 minutes from the Neumarkt in light traffic. It publishes no coach pick-up point or coach rules, and its multi-storey car park takes 2.00 m at most, so the meeting point and stopping place are agreed with the operator. Leipzig/Halle is about 122 km away (about 1.5 hours) and BER about 173 km (about 2.25 hours): long legs that shape the driver's day.

Dresden Hauptbahnhof, south of the Altstadt, has EuroCity trains between Prague and Berlin or Hamburg and ICE trains to Leipzig and Frankfurt. Dresden-Neustadt, north of the Elbe, is the second main station. The S2 links the airport with both.

Messe and the congress centre

Messe Dresden in the Ostragehege, with the BÖRSE DRESDEN conference centre, hosts events from 50 to 15,000 people. Coaches use set-down zones agreed with the organiser in advance and then park a few hundred metres off on Pieschener Allee; visitor car park P7 takes vehicles up to 3.5 t only. Tram 10 stops at the main foyer.

The congress centre on the Elbe beside the Altstadt seats up to 6,800 in 21 rooms. The coach terminal Am Zwingerteich is close by: 9 places, 30 minutes at most, with a rest room for drivers and guides.

No sticker, fewer bridges

No sticker or diesel rule applies in Dresden. The river is what limits a plan. The Carolabrücke has been demolished and rebuilding is planned from 2028, and the Blaues Wunder, under repair until about 2031, runs one lane each way with some weekend full closures. Shuttles between Neustadt hotels and the Altstadt share the remaining bridges, so allow for it.

A signposted guidance system leads coaches to set-down points, where a stop should last 15 to 20 minutes at most and only an assembled group is picked up. For longer waits, the city recommends the coach parks at Ammonstraße near the Hauptbahnhof or Pieschener Allee; coach parks allow 2 to 3 hours, not a whole day.

Planner questions

Can a group go on to Prague by coach?

Yes, about 146 km and 2 hours. Czech roads charge vehicles over 3.5 t an electronic toll with an on-board unit, so check the rules before travel.

Where does a coach stop for the Frauenkirche?

The Neumarkt is traffic-calmed with no parking. Use the Altmarkt/Wilsdruffer Straße set-down or the Zwingerteich terminal and walk from there.

What is the Cyberport Arena?

The multi-purpose sports hall on Bodenbacher Straße, renamed on 1 October 2026; it was the Margon Arena from 2007.

Does the Messe coach park ever close?

Pieschener Allee has been closed in past winters for a Christmas circus, so check winter dates with the organiser early.
