Hamburg Airport group transfers: coach areas by terminal, Messe and cruise links

Hamburg gives coaches their own signed areas, one per terminal. Pick the right one, allow for the barrier and payment, and an arriving group is on the road quickly.

T1 or T2: the driver's choice

Two signed areas, "Reisebusse T1" and "Reisebusse T2": the driver picks whichever matches the arrival terminal, guided by the car-park signs, and reaches the Terminal 2 area via the "Luftfracht" access road. Neither has a height limit. Entry works by call button: if space is free, a ticket comes out at the barrier; payment comes before exit, so a few minutes go into the plan for that.

Terminals 1 and 2 are joined by the Airport Plaza, a sensible gathering point for a group split across both.

Closer to the door

Registered operators holding the airport's coach park card have one more option: an exclusive parking zone on the arrivals level right outside the terminals, entered via the "Transfer Parken" lane. Whether a job uses it depends on the operator, and the quote states where the group boards. Only hotel guests may use the coach stop at the airport hotel; it is no meeting point for anyone else.

Drive time to the city

  • about 11 km by road to the Rathaus, in the centre of Hamburg, about 20-25 min in light traffic; longer at peak times

Terminals and arrival levels

  • Terminal 2
  • Terminal 1
  • Airport Plaza between the two terminals, with the central security check on level 1

To the city, the Messe and the CCH

The Rathaus is about 11 km away; allow 20 to 25 minutes in light traffic. No Umweltzone exists in Hamburg, so stickers are not an issue. The Messe and the CCH have short set-down stops: Rentzelstraße at the Messe (4 coaches) and Theodor-Heuss-Platz opposite Dammtor station (3), both for setting down and picking up only. A delegation in several coaches staggers them a few minutes apart.

Cruise and Baltic links

The Ostseekai cruise terminal in Kiel lies about 92 km away, about an hour by road; Lübeck about 70 km. On embarkation day the coach can run straight from the airport to the terminal on the cruise documents, with check-in times built into the schedule.

S-Bahn and ICE

S1 needs about 25 minutes from the airport station to the Hauptbahnhof and runs every 10 minutes, and weekday peaks bring extra trains. The airport has no long-distance station, so ICE journeys begin at the Hauptbahnhof, or at Dammtor, next to the Messe and the CCH.

Planner questions

Where does the coach pick us up?

At the "Reisebusse T1" or "Reisebusse T2" coach area near your arrival terminal; some operators can also use the exclusive zone on the arrivals level.

Is there a group meeting point inside the terminal?

The airport does not publish one. The joining notes name the terminal and the walking route to the coach area.

Is a green sticker needed for Hamburg?

No, the city has no Umweltzone.
