Frankfurt Airport group transfers: P36, P62 and the Messe run

Frankfurt is where a delegation most often splits: two working terminals, a long-distance station and a coach park a short walk from arrivals. The plan starts with the terminal each flight uses.

Terminal first, vehicle second

Terminal 2 is closed to passengers, so every arrival comes through Terminal 1 or Terminal 3. Airlines keep switching between the two, and another wave of moves is planned for summer 2027. Work from the terminal printed on each booking and recheck it in the week of travel.

Groups landing in both terminals gather at Terminal 1. The free SkyLine shuttles between Terminal 3 and Terminal 1 every 2 to 3 minutes from 04:00 to 23:00; the ride itself takes about 8 minutes, so budget 10 to 15 minutes from one door to the other. From 22:00, a shuttle bus covers the link.

Where the coach holds

Base: bus parking P36 beside Terminal 1, reached on marked footpaths from Arrivals C in about five minutes. Maximum stay 3 hours, no reservations. The operator therefore brings the coach in against the real landing time, not the schedule set at breakfast.

P62, the charter bus lane at Terminal 3, serves loading only: passengers and bags aboard, then away. It suits one flight at Terminal 3 with everyone together; for mixed arrivals P36 is steadier. Note the 2.10 m height limit in the car parks before planning to leave a van there.

Drive time to the city

  • about 13 km by road to the Römerberg, in the centre of Frankfurt am Main, about 15-20 min in light traffic; longer at peak times

Terminals and arrival levels

  • Terminal 3 (piers G, H and J; opened in April 2026)
  • Terminal 1 (halls A, B, C and Z)
  • Terminal 2 (closed to passengers since 9 June 2026 for refurbishment)

Rail hand-offs on site

ICE and IC trains from across Germany and neighbouring countries stop at the Fernbahnhof, a five-minute walk from Terminal 1. A team arriving by rail and a team landing by air can therefore meet in one building and board one coach at P36. S8 and S9 call at the regional station below Terminal 1, handy for a late delegate following the group.

Onward: city, Messe and further out

Römerberg: about 13 km by road, 15 to 20 minutes in light traffic, longer at peak. Inside the motorway ring Frankfurt is an Umweltzone requiring the green sticker, yet a coach can reach the Messe's Tor West and Tor Nord gates from the A5 without entering it. That keeps an airport-to-Messe shuttle simple during a fair.

For incentive days after an early landing: Rüdesheim am Rhein, about 54 km (45 to 50 minutes); Heidelberg, about 83 km (about an hour).

Planner questions

Can the coach wait in front of the terminal?

Not for a group. The drop-off areas in front of Terminals 1 and 3 are for short stops; the coach base is P36, a short walk from Arrivals C, and P62 at Terminal 3 is for loading only.

Which terminal should we give for our flights?

The one on each booking. Airlines are still moving between Terminals 1 and 3, so the terminal is checked again shortly before travel.

Our flights land at both terminals within an hour. One coach or two?

Usually one, with the Terminal 3 arrivals taking the SkyLine to Terminal 1 and boarding at P36. Two make sense when the groups go to different hotels or the gap exceeds the 3-hour stay.
