Group Transport in Cologne for Fairs, Flights and Trains
In Cologne the Koelnmesse faces the Dom across the Rhine, one stop from the Hauptbahnhof. Coaches do most of their work on the Deutz side and touch the old town only at Gereonstraße.
Arriving by air
Köln/Bonn Airport is about 16 km from the Dom, about 20 minutes in light traffic. Group coaches use the long-distance bus station beside Terminal 2 (P32), where planned arrivals are registered with the airport at least 24 hours ahead and passengers board only at the bays. Drivers may not take rest breaks there.
Many fair visitors land at Düsseldorf instead, about 60 km and an hour away. That changes the coach size, the pickup time and the driver's day, so give us both airports if the delegation is split.

Two stations, two banks
Rail arrivals divide between Köln Hauptbahnhof, beside the Dom, and Köln Messe/Deutz, where some ICE trains stop instead. Check each ticket: a group met at the wrong station is on the wrong side of the Rhine. Messe/Deutz serves the Koelnmesse and the LANXESS arena directly.

Koelnmesse and Deutz
The Koelnmesse has 11 halls and a congress centre with more than 40 rooms; Congress-Centrum Ost is about 350 m on foot from Messe/Deutz station. The fair publishes no coach rules, so the operator settles the stopping point with the venue in advance. The LANXESS arena car park P5 takes coaches but closes for Kölner Haie games and often for concerts.
Deutz hotels keep delegates on foot to the halls; hotels by the Dom are one stop away. Works on the Mülheimer Brücke and the Zoobrücke ramps can close lanes, so a cross-river shuttle loop needs slack.
Umweltzone and the Gereonstraße rule
Almost all of Cologne is an Umweltzone: green sticker only, foreign coaches included, no general exemption, no diesel bans. In the centre coaches set down and pick up at Gereonstraße for at most 15 minutes, engine off, then park free at the Buspark Köln on Kuhweg in Riehl. Komödienstraße is off the list now, and the Breslauer Platz bays belong to public transport.
In Advent the Gereonstraße stop usually closes and coaches use the Koelnmesse car park P22, booked ahead through the eSlot portal. The year's arrangement is confirmed when booking.
Planner questions
Can the coach drop us at the Dom?
No. The central stop is Gereonstraße. Since July 2026 the Dom charges a sightseeing ticket, and wheeled suitcases are not allowed inside, so luggage stays on the coach.
How far ahead must Dom tours be booked?
At least 14 days, through the DOMFORUM, for groups of up to 20 led by authorised cathedral guides.
Where do coaches park for the RheinEnergieSTADION?
At coach park P8 on Salzburger Weg in Müngersdorf; on match days coach parking can be booked in advance.
