Step-free group transfers, arranged per booking
Accessible transport for a group is not automatic. EU assistance rights cover scheduled coach lines, not private hire, so the right vehicle and any help are set up with each booking.
What the rules cover
On scheduled services of 250 km or more, disabled passengers receive assistance if they tell the operator 36 hours ahead. A private hire sits outside that, so the brief must say who needs what. A car carrying someone who stays in their wheelchair needs a wheelchair space with restraints for both chair and occupant. On a bus, occupied wheelchair places must have belts before it may use the 100 km/h motorway limit, which can lengthen journey times.

What to put in the request
The number of wheelchair users, whether each can transfer to a seat, the type and size of each chair, and any walking limits. Distance from vehicle to door matters: at BER, coaches wait at Bus Stop B, about 400 m from Terminal 1 and 600 m from Terminal 2, so plan that stretch or book airport assistance for it.
Rules that set the timetable
- A car carrying a wheelchair user seated in the wheelchair must have a wheelchair space with wheelchair and occupant restraints (§ 35a StVZO)
- The Kölner Karneval has an inclusion stand on the Hohenzollernring for the Rosenmontagszug, booked through the Landschaftsverband Rheinland (LVR)
Places with special access
In Nürnberg, coaches carrying people with reduced mobility may enter Augustinerstraße only with a permit for a set time slot, reserved online from the city, stopping briefly and without waiting for latecomers; with several coaches, seat those passengers in one. The terminals at berths P7 and P8 in Warnemünde are step-free. Koelnmesse's accessibility guide shows a bus station between the East and West entrances with disabled parking, and the Köln carnival has an inclusion stand for the Rosenmontag parade, booked through the LVR.
Planner questions
Can a mixed group travel together?
Yes, in an accessible minibus or in vehicles moving as one convoy. Wheelchair places replace seats, so total capacity falls.
Can a wheelchair user stay in the chair during the trip?
Yes, in a wheelchair space with restraints for the chair and the person. Powered chairs need their dimensions in the request.
How early should we ask?
As early as you can, with full passenger details, because the vehicle is matched to the people travelling.
