Regensburg Group Transfers: Stadtamhof, Danube and Airports
Regensburg has no airport of its own, and its old town admits only vehicles with a green sticker. Most group movements therefore start on a motorway and end at one stop across the Danube.
Coming in from MUC or NUE
Munich Airport is about 105 km from the Dom, about 1 h 10 min in light traffic; Nuremberg Airport lies about 111 km off, some 1 h 15 min. For a group spread over several flights, pick the airport by the flight plan, not the map, and allow for baggage halls and motorway traffic.
Rail arrivals use the Hauptbahnhof on the south edge of the old town. Deutsche Bahn is renewing the lines around Regensburg in full closures, so check the current rail service before mixing train and coach legs.

Twenty minutes at Stadtamhof
The city recommends the coach stop "Stadtamhof" at Am Protzenweiher, where a coach is allowed 20 minutes for boarding and alighting. The group then crosses the Steinerne Brücke on foot into the old town. Building works have shut the Schwanenplatz stop, so leave it out of the plan.
After the set-down, the coach moves to the free coach park on the Bäckergasse, north of the Europakanal on the Frankenstraße, signed from Stadtamhof and a few minutes' walk away. A second free coach park is at the Donau-Arena on the eastern side of town. The Dultplatz is no longer used for coaches.
Airports feeding Regensburg
Hotel districts for pickups
- Hauptbahnhof and Regensburg Arcaden
- East of the city near the Donau-Arena and the motorway
- Altstadt (inside the low-emission zone)
- Stadtamhof and the north bank
Hotels inside the zone
The Umweltzone is the Altstadt itself, bounded by the Alleengürtel and the river. Driving or parking there takes a green sticker, whatever the country of registration. Old-town hotels sit inside it, so the sticker matters for every arrival and departure, and the quote states it.
Danube half-days
Allow about 25 minutes to Walhalla at Donaustauf, 35 to the Befreiungshalle on the Michelsberg and 40 to Weltenburg Abbey by the Danube Gorge, which fits a half day after a meeting. Nürnberg is about 1 h 15 min by road, München about 1 h 30 and Passau about 1 h 20.
Planner questions
Is a set-down by the cathedral possible?
Not as a plan. The recommended set-down is Stadtamhof, a short walk over the Steinerne Brücke, and the Schwanenplatz stop is closed for works.
How long may the coach stand at Stadtamhof?
Twenty minutes, for boarding and alighting only. It then parks at the Bäckergasse or the Donau-Arena, both free.
Which airport is better for a Regensburg group?
They are close by road: about 1 h 10 min from MUC and about 1 h 15 min from NUE. Choose by the flights, and send them with the booking request.
