Turnaround day: flights, hotels and the ship
Embarkation and disembarkation days squeeze thousands of passengers into a few hours. Group transfers run to plan when the terminal, the flight times and the luggage count are fixed before the day.
Hamburg: confirm the terminal
Hamburg's cruise terminals lie in different parts of the port: Altona on the north bank, Steinwerder on the south bank, the HafenCity terminal in the Überseequartier a few minutes on foot from the centre, and the temporary berth at Baakenhöft. Work from the terminal on the cruise documents. Hamburg Airport is about 13 to 20 km away depending on the terminal, about 25 to 35 minutes in light traffic.

Kiel and Bremerhaven by road
Kiel's Ostseekai is about 91 km from Hamburg Airport, around an hour in light traffic. No coach parking is published at Kiel's terminals, so pickups are timed rather than held at the kerb. Bremerhaven's terminal is about 72 km from Bremen Airport and 193 km from Hamburg Airport, and about 68 km from Bremen's Marktplatz for groups staying in the city.
Rules that set the timetable
- Kiel's Ostseekai terminal is about 1.6 km from Kiel Hauptbahnhof and about 91 km by road from Hamburg airport
- Bremerhaven's cruise terminal is about 68 km by road from Bremen's Marktplatz; on cruise days a city bus links it to Bremerhaven Hauptbahnhof
Warnemünde: registration and a long Berlin run
At Warnemünde, excursion and shuttle operators register with the port in advance, and parking at the terminal is not allowed during ship calls. Berlin is about 243 km by road, which turns a Berlin shore trip into a long day: the driver's daily limit and breaks decide how long the group gets in the city.
For flights, Hamburg Airport is about 195 km from Warnemünde and BER about 264 km. Allow for peak traffic on top.
Planner questions
Which terminal will our ship use?
The one on your cruise documents. Hamburg's terminals are far apart, and a line's terminal can change from one call to the next.
Can one coach cover two flights?
If they land close together, yes. Otherwise two smaller vehicles stop the first group waiting for the second.
Is a Berlin excursion from Warnemünde realistic by coach?
Yes, as a long day of about 243 km each way. Check the all-aboard time against the drive before booking.
