Munich Airport group transfers: forecourt coach areas, P53 and a long road in

Munich Airport sits about 39 km from Marienplatz, near Freising and Erding. Coaches have their own barrier-controlled areas at both terminals; what still needs agreeing is where the group meets inside, and how the long road leg fits the day.

Coach areas at both terminals

In the forecourts of Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 the airport sets aside barrier-controlled special areas for commercial coach traffic, so the coach loads close to the door. Across the whole airport the first 10 minutes are free twice per calendar day, and a stay there is capped at 48 hours. Long-distance coaches use bus stops 21 and 22 at Terminal 2 instead.

No group meeting point is published. The spot inside the terminal and the coach's waiting place are agreed with the operator when the job is booked, and both go into the joining instructions with the terminal.

Late flights and long waits

For longer waits the airport asks coaches to use coach park P53 at the Besucherpark, not the terminal areas. The coach holds there and moves up once the group is through. Since April 2026, non-Schengen flights have used the new Terminal 1 Pier; passport control sits between aircraft and arrivals hall, so the call-up follows the moment the group walks out, not touchdown.

The car parks have a 2.00 m entrance height. P50's over-height spaces take vehicles up to 8 m long, too short for a full-size coach.

Drive time to the city

  • about 39 km by road to Marienplatz, in the centre of München, about 40 min in light traffic; longer at peak times

Terminals and arrival levels

  • Terminal 2 (with its satellite building)
  • Terminal 1 (with the Terminal 1 Pier for non-Schengen flights, in operation since 21 April 2026)
  • Munich Airport Center (MAC), between the two terminals

To Messe München and the city

Messe München is in Messestadt Riem, in the east of the city, directly on the A94. The Busterminal Messestadt Ost beside the grounds lies outside the Umweltzone, a practical base for a fair-week shuttle. The zone covers the Mittlerer Ring and everything inside it: green sticker required, and diesel vehicles of Euro 4 or older are banned.

Marienplatz is about 40 minutes in light traffic; in the morning and evening peaks, plan well beyond that.

Rail as the fallback

Two S-Bahn lines, S1 and S8, combine into a 10-minute service and need about 40 minutes to the Hauptbahnhof; the airport bus adds a departure every 20 minutes. ICE trains do not call here. The regional Airport Express (ÜFEX) runs via Freising to Landshut, Regensburg and Nürnberg.

Skipping the city entirely

Garmisch-Partenkirchen is about 135 km (about 1 h 35 min), Füssen and the castles at Hohenschwangau about 165 km (about 2 hours), Regensburg about 105 km, Nürnberg about 160 km and Salzburg about 185 km. After a long-haul arrival, count the driver's day as well as the group's.

Planner questions

Where will the coach meet us at Munich Airport?

It loads in the barrier-controlled coach area at your terminal. The meeting spot inside the terminal is agreed with the operator at booking and appears in the joining notes.

Where does the coach wait if our flight is late?

At coach park P53 at the Besucherpark, which the airport asks coaches to use for longer waits. It moves up to the terminal coach area when the group is ready.

Is Munich Airport on the ICE network?

No. Long-distance trains leave from München Hauptbahnhof; the ÜFEX regional train links the airport with Regensburg and Nürnberg.
