Hannover Airport group transfers: trade-fair weeks and Terminals A to D

Hannover's busiest group weeks are trade-fair weeks, when exhibitors and visitors land within hours of each other and head for the Messegelände. The airport leg is short; the planning is in the detail.

A coach area without published rules

On its access map the airport shows a coach parking area, complete with a navigation position, yet it says nothing about time limits, registration or charges there. The operator confirms how it is used for each job and where the group boards. The public bus stop is right next to Terminal C, between the airport hotel and P3.

Gathering across four terminals

Terminals A, B and C are a few minutes apart on foot. Terminal D checks in at Terminal C and is about 300 m further along level E1, with a weather canopy for people meeting arrivals on its east side. For a group split across terminals, Terminal C is the natural gathering point: it is beside the bus stop and directly above the S-Bahn station.

Parking directly in front of the terminals is free for up to 10 minutes, for two entries per calendar day. Only cars up to 2.00 m fit the multi-storey car parks; seasonal car park P10 sets no height limit and accepts over-height or over-length vehicles with a reservation.

Drive time to the city

  • about 14 km by road to Kröpcke, in the centre of Hannover, about 20-25 min in light traffic; the airport gives about 25-30 min by taxi depending on traffic

Terminals and arrival levels

  • Terminal B
  • Terminal D (check-in in Terminal C, then a walk of about 300 m on level E1)
  • Terminal A
  • Terminal C

To the Messegelände

Allow about 30 minutes by road from the airport to the exhibition grounds, more in heavy traffic; they lie in the south-east of the city, on the border with Laatzen. HANNOVER MESSE next runs from 5 to 8 April 2027, and hotels in and around the city fill early. Hannover lifted its Umweltzone in 2024, so no sticker is needed.

For delegations staying near the grounds or in Laatzen, a dedicated airport run and a separate hotel-to-hall shuttle keep the two jobs from colliding on the opening mornings.

City centre and rail

Kröpcke is about 14 km by road, 20 to 25 minutes in light traffic, while the airport puts a taxi ride at 25 to 30 minutes. From directly below Terminal C, S5 takes about 18 minutes to the Hauptbahnhof. Long-distance trains, ICE included, call only at the Hauptbahnhof, so check the current rail service before planning a connection.

Planner questions

Where does the coach collect the group?

At the stopping place the operator confirms for the job. A coach area appears on the airport's map, but no rules for it are published.

Do we need a green sticker in Hannover?

No. Hannover lifted its Umweltzone in February 2024.

How long from the airport to the exhibition grounds?

About 30 minutes by road, depending on traffic; allow more in a major fair week.
