Premium Coach Hire in Germany

Day excursions built around timed entries

A partner programme, crew rest day or incentive excursion turns on one fixed time: a castle tour, a boat departure, a table booking. The drive is planned backwards from it.

Neuschwanstein: the tour time does not move

Neuschwanstein is seen only on tours at fixed entry times, and a late group loses its tour. Tickets are sold online and at the ticket centre in Hohenschwangau, nothing at the castle, and same-day tickets sell out in high season, so buy ahead. Coaches park only at P1 or P4 and cannot set down at the ticket centre. Aim to reach Hohenschwangau one and a half to two hours ahead of the tour.

From Munich the day is about 260 km of driving, inside the daily limit with a 45-minute break after 4.5 hours. On snow or ice the shuttle bus to the castle stops running, so allow for the walk in winter.

Old towns with edge-of-centre stops

In Nürnberg, coaches stop at Vestnertorgraben, Grasersgasse and Spittlertorgraben on the edge of the old town, about 15 minutes on foot from the main sights. Köln's Gereonstraße stop allows 15 minutes with the engine off and has a different arrangement in Advent. In Heidelberg the Neckarmünzplatz is for a short set-down only. Between Wiesbaden and Koblenz no bridge crosses the Rhine for about 90 km, and a coach crossing by ferry cannot be promised.

Rules that set the timetable

  • Foreign drivers can order the sticker online from the vehicle inspection bodies DEKRA, GTÜ and TÜV; it is valid in every Umweltzone in Germany
  • The Sunday and holiday lorry ban does not apply to buses
  • On long days out, the EU rules allow at most 9 hours of driving a day (10 hours twice a week), with a 45-minute break after 4.5 hours

Road rules on the way

Inside a low-emission zone every vehicle needs the green sticker, foreign ones included, but many cities have lifted their zones, so each is checked before travel. Winter tyres are required whenever there is ice, snow or slush, not from a set date. A coach runs at 100 km/h on the motorway only when approved and equipped for it, otherwise at 80 km/h, which matters for a tight return to dinner.

Planner questions

Can one vehicle do the airport run and the excursion?

Only if the driver's hours allow. A morning arrival transfer followed by a long excursion often exceeds one day's limit.

Who books the castle tickets?

You or your DMC. The booking covers the vehicle and driver; entry tickets and guides are arranged separately.

Is Sunday a problem for coach excursions?

No. The Sunday and holiday lorry ban does not cover buses.
