Oktoberfest 2027: Getting Groups to the Wiesn and Back
Oktoberfest runs from 18 September to 3 October 2027 on the Theresienwiese. One rule decides every group transfer: coaches may neither park at the grounds nor set down in the streets beside them.
The coach stops short of the grounds
A wide restricted zone (Sperrbereich) surrounds the Theresienwiese, and coaches must use the city's designated coach sites. In 2026 those were Busterminal Fröttmaning, the Viehhof, the Messegelände Riem and Tübinger Straße; the 2027 sites are published by the city and confirmed when you book. From most sites the last stretch is by U-Bahn or on foot, so the plan covers that leg too: which station, who leads, where the group regroups.
U4/U5 Theresienwiese stops at the grounds and is crowded at peak times; Goetheplatz, Poccistraße and Schwanthalerhöhe are calmer. From the Hauptbahnhof it is about 15 minutes on foot.

Build the day from the table booking
A tent reservation has a start time, and the transfer works back from it. Schwanthalerstraße west of the Theresienhöhe is closed with vehicle barriers at the busiest times (in 2026: Monday to Friday after 16:00, Saturday after 10:00), and on the opening weekend the parades of the festival hosts and of costume and riflemen's clubs close streets in the city centre. Hotel pick-ups on those days need extra time.
The return is the harder leg. Fix a leaving time and a meeting point before the group goes in, and send both to every guest.
Movement planning notes
- Coaches cannot park at the Theresienwiese. In 2026 the city named four coach parking sites for the Oktoberfest: Busterminal Fröttmaning, Viehhof, Messegelände Riem and Tübinger Straße.
- A wide restricted zone (Sperrbereich) is set up around the Theresienwiese, and there is no visitor parking at the grounds.
- Schwanthalerstraße west of the Theresienhöhe is closed with vehicle barriers at the busiest times (in 2026: weekdays from 16:00 and Saturdays from 10:00).
- München airport is about 39 km by road from the Theresienwiese (about 40 min in light traffic); S-Bahn lines S1 and S8 run from the airport to the Hauptbahnhof in about 40 minutes.
- The 2027 dates are published by München Tourismus; the 2026 Oktoberfest ran from 19 September to 4 October.
- Coaches may not let passengers on or off in the street next to the festival grounds; they must use the designated coach sites only.
- The U-Bahn stops at the grounds (U4/U5 Theresienwiese); Goetheplatz, Poccistraße and Schwanthalerhöhe are quieter alternatives, and the walk from the Hauptbahnhof takes about 15 minutes.
- On the opening weekend, the parades of the festival hosts and of costume and riflemen's clubs close streets in the city centre.
Airport runs and the Umweltzone
Munich Airport is about 39 km from the Theresienwiese, about 40 minutes in light traffic and slower during the festival; S1 and S8 reach the Hauptbahnhof in about 40 minutes. The low-emission zone takes in the Mittlerer Ring and everything inside it: green sticker required, foreign coaches included, and diesels of Euro 4/IV or older are barred. Fröttmaning sits outside the zone beside the motorway, on the U6.
Planner questions
Can the coach drop us at our tent?
No. Setting down beside the grounds is not allowed. The group leaves the coach at a designated site and finishes the journey by U-Bahn or on foot.
Which coach sites apply in 2027?
The city publishes them for each festival. The 2026 sites are listed here as the recent arrangement; the 2027 plan is confirmed at booking.
Do you reserve tables in the tents?
No. We arrange transport only. Send your reservation time and the transfer is planned around it.
